Growing Orchids

Cultural tips on specific genera by Yin-Tung Wang, Ph.D.

Question:  Dr. Wang, Are you familiar with Blptm. Midnight Blue 'Cardinal's Roost'?  I can't even find out what Blptm stands for.  Will these grow in south Texas? I want one! Richard

Here is a photo that Marianne took at the World Show.

Answer: Richard,  Blptm is Bollopetalum (Bollea X Zygopetalum). We produce quite a bit of them. They do not seem to inherit the fragrance from Zygopetalum. They like cooler temperatures to grow their best.  Yin-Tung
